Jockey shifters, foot clutches and Bad Ideas!

Well I wanted to be able to ride around at owls head so I've been in the garage every night till 10 trying to get a foot clutch and jockey shifter to work I got it all worked out by Saturday morning with the new axle and bearings and every thing so I wanted to test it out in the driveway. The dude from hybrid engineering said that first gear in a 914 is delicate so I should try to start off in second. So I pushed her out front and tried to ease the clutch out in second I heard a klunk! I blew up the love joy coupler in the rear hub snapped all three teeth clean off tore up the buna bushing. I decide to tig weld the remaining piece of the love joy coupler back in to the hub so I could try it out. Attempt no 2 I let the clutch out nice and easy well the thing took off so quick I was a little surprised the rear sprocket made some noise under load so I took a quick glance and touched the throttle a little just to see where the noise was coming from.( okay mistake) well that M...F...er stood up on the rear wheel and my clutch foot slipped off the peg so as soon as the front tire hit the ground I tried to grab the clutch on the handle bar (but its not there! Mistake no2) so I jammed on the front brake but I grabbed it so hard I could let go of the throughtle.(clutch foot was still dangling I guess) well that didn't stop the bike it just pushed the front tire along until I hit the garage. Okay the bike should stall right nope still spinning that 230 she started doing a mad max swinging the ass end around heading for the 68 T-bird( which would have caused death by .357 because its the wife's) so finally swatted the kill switch in time to feel this burning in my leg well we were supposed to have a bar BQ that night I just didn't think leg was on the menu. So the bike seems okay and the garage don't look to bad but every time I look at my leg two thing come to mind mmmm BBQ and foot clutches and jockey shifters really are dangerous.
so remember power corrupts and absolute power well that corrupts absolutely
note to self buy calf high motorcycle boots

Front mount update

I was looking through empi's catalogue when I discovered a front mount solution
http://www.empius.com/catalog/empi2005_pg7.html
this would greatly improve and simplify the front mount.

The tranny is 23 inches long give or take
The stub axle protrudes to 5" a 230 tire is about as wide as you can go before running into offset issues
The whole engine tranny assy is 3' from rear tranny mount to front motor mount
the front motor mount is a u shaped bracket that bolts to the case bolt below the oil pump and to the flat bar inbetween the down tubes.
Last night I finished the slave cylinder and the clutch next I'll plumb the slave cylinder and test that out. Shifting is coming up quick any idea's?

Mounted!

Here is a pic of the motor and tranny mounts the top one is a tranny mount the two tabs are not necessary they were for mounting something else.
the bottom pic is the major mount this holds the front of the trany and the whole motor. This plate bolts where the bottom transmission bolts to the engine. Two tabs are welded to the bike frame, the plate bolts to those tabs it locks everything together I haven't noticed any twisting or flexing it also stiffens the frame up
I have a front motor mount but it is more of a stabilizer bracket than a mount.

sprockets

sprokets: In this picture you can see the sprockets are the same size unlike most motorcycles the reason is the rear tire is the same size as the associated porsche tire. therefore the final gear ratio in the tranny is what the tire diameter is designed for. upon riding I will determine weather to up the front sprocket diameter because this pig will have so much tourqe that you can probably start off in any gear. The bug that the motor came from would spin the tires in all 4 gears. the rear rim is a vw sand rail rim and a customized ghia disk brake hub.

why 914 for me

Some Facts about the 914 Trans. it is basicly the same as a 911 transmission that was modified from rear engine to mid- engine for the 914. The main difference is a notch cut in the reverse shift linkage and the nose cone! I chose this transmission over a bug tranny for a couple of reasons, the biggest is it has the shift linkage out of the side, five speeds and it is its twice as rugged as a bug tranny! The diff is bigger and the bearings are almost twice the size. I had some issues when I got the tranny, it was in a bucket. It was a learning curve to put it together and then figure out how to flip the diff, which I had put in wrong from the start. In order to flip the diff you must pull the whole gear cluster out to get the input shaft and pinion out of youre way.
why do I need a more rugged transmisssion? the current motor used to push a 1200 pound bug 9 seconds in an eigth mile and spin the tires in all four gears and snap nose cones. After the BUG's are worked out I want to put in a 2180cc motor. pluss I like the way Bud Burkey's supercharger sounds.

Ogrecycle

OK what is an Ogre Cycle? is what your probably asking yourself. Well I started building a motorcycle a few years ago and when it got this ugly it had to be an Ogre!
here is the nut shell! It is a VW bug motor a Porsche 914 5 speed a 230/60/15 avon and a harley dynaglide frontend.

Yes it runs! and now it even goes forward! if the clutch holds out! more to come first post!
