Ogrecycle

OK what is an Ogre Cycle? is what your probably asking yourself. Well I started building a motorcycle a few years ago and when it got this ugly it had to be an Ogre!
here is the nut shell! It is a VW bug motor a Porsche 914 5 speed a 230/60/15 avon and a harley dynaglide frontend.

Yes it runs! and now it even goes forward! if the clutch holds out! more to come first post!

V. nice work. Am looking forward to more pics of the running machine. Esp. need to see LOTS more about the 914 trans and how you did the drive and shifting. These pics are very helpful, much apprecited. You gonna leave the frame that flat green? We have a hot-rod car in our town painted that color, kinda shoking but it grows on you. I like it.

the drive was the easy part I ran 1:1 harley primary sprocket off the cv output shaft to the same 24 tooth sprocket on the rear hub. the shifting is a little more tricky havent worked out all the bugs yet but lateral motion is with the foot and the left to right will either be an actuator or a 3 speed bike shifter. I'll put some pics up of that stuff soon.

Great job! Question, why would you have to flip the ring and pinion in a 914 trans? Arent they set up with the engine ahead of the trans as you have it in your bike? Let me know I am intersested in buiding one myself.

your right that was one of the reasons I picked it.I had to put the diff in the corect way when I got it in the bucket it was not in the trany so at first I put it in wrong before I figured it out then I welded the spider gears up and put her back together.

I would really like to build one, I have the trans and engine. Do you have any drawings you would share on the frame. How did you mount the engine and trans?

I dont have any drawings. I'll put some picks of the mounts. the motor has one mount on the front which is dificult to explain the midle mount is the key it is just like a bus to bug transmission adapter available through CB performance.it's a flat steel plate that the two bottom engine mount bolts go through and then bolts two two tabs on the frame.
the nose cone of the trany bolts to a piece of flat stock that ties to the two down tubes by the rear tire this is a tricky spot because the chain clearance it tight.
I built the frame out of 3/4" pipe around all of the pieces motor, trans, rear tire, front forks, seat height, ground clearance. with a 33 degree rake then I took it all to a race bike shop and he built it out of 1.1/4 tube.

I am still tying to get it all together to build a bike like yours.

Can you give me the length of the bottom part of the frame from the front down tubes to the rear part of the frame where the tranny mounts?

If you want to email me direct GaryCBarnes@aol.com

Thanks,

Gary

Jeff, your ogrecycle looks great. People dont realize what time it takes to "more or less" invent something. I commend you on your effort and creativity.
